Street and Racing Technology (SRT) in Toronto
Activate your launch sequence and blast off with the Street and Racing Technology (SRT) lineup of vehicles available at your Toronto Islington Chrysler dealership.
Street and Racing Technology, also known as SRT, is a high-performance automobile group within Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, one of the world's largest-and most renowned-automakers.
Chrysler believes performance vehicles are a way of life. The SRT badge is one of honour, so you can expect the lineup to meet major benchmarks: industry-challenging powertrain, handling, and braking, and a perfect ride. And, of course, a sleek, vicious exterior and a race car-inspired interior are also hallmarks of these vehicles.
SRT started up in 1992 in Detroit, Michigan, home of the Dodge Viper, and today the company's cars are being sold in Canada including Toronto, at Islington Chrysler!
The SRT team initially called themselves "Team Viper" and set out to build the legendary supercar. They later merged with "Team Prowler", the engineers behind the Plymouth Prowler, and, in 2004, they named their now-established development group under the Street and Racing Technology brand. Today they are SRT. The company currently builds and tunes high-performance vehicles for the Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep brands.
The cutting-edge and fastest SRT production models are the SRT Viper with a recorded quarter-mile time as little as 11.1 seconds. The Challenger Hellcat is nearly as fleet, taking just 11.9 seconds in the quarter. Even the heavy-weight Grand Cherokee SRT-8 manages just 13.3 seconds. 2011 marked an important era for SRT: Chrysler released the revolutionary 392 6.4L HEMI engine, rated at 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. This new engine is the guts and backbone of the Dodge Challenger SRT-8, Dodge Charger SRT-8, Chrysler 300 SRT-8 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8. The engine propelled the SRT-8 series into a new dimension of faster, near light-speed cars. And the new models weren't just faster, they also had much-improved fuel efficiency.
The Viper has always been the signature automobile for SRT, and, in recent years, SRT made it official: for models since 2013, the Viper has been sold under the official name "SRT Viper". In 2014, after two years of SRT as an independent division, the SRT brand was renewed under Dodge, with former SRT CEO Ralph Gilles continuing as Senior Vice President of product design. The SRT Viper was renamed the Dodge Viper, expanding the Dodge lineup and focusing it as a performance-dedicated brand. Later that same year, Chrysler announced a new variant of SRT called "SRT Hellcat", and today SRT is producing generation-leading supercar engines and build technology.
The SRT series are still truckin' on, stronger than ever. The Dodge Challenger SRT-8, Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, Dodge Charger SRT-8, Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8, and Dodge Viper SRT series are leading the way with powerful Supercharged, V8, V10, and HEMI engines. The SRT brand is alive and kicking, and Toronto's Islington Chrysler is excited to bring you these powerful, industry-defining cars.
